5 Last Minute Holiday Party Mashups

Event Specialist, Cheryl Lawson shares a few last minute holiday party ideas.

So it's December 18th and you find that the Holiday Spirit is a late bloomer this year. Don't fret, here are some really fun and affordable ways to put together a fun holiday party with your friends. (Most of them are Mashups)

According to Wikipedia: "The term mashup implies easy, fast integration, frequently using(data) Party sources to produce results that were not the original reason for producing the (raw source data) Party.

To my fellow geeks, think of these as my party APIs.

1. The SPA Mashup:

With so many strip mall day spa's popping up all around, I can't imagine they are ALL busy this season, get your girls together and invade one of them. Appointment Smointment. If they have a sign that says "Walk ins welcome".. Just walk in. Don't they all just say "5 minutes, pick a color" anyway?

You can take turns for who's got next! After the place has cleared.. Trust me it will be YOUR exclusive party with out having to buy out the place. Bring cute little champagne flask and no one will be the wiser.

If you happen to live in a place where the spas are all filled up for the holiday rush... Don't fear. Opt for a unique treatment.

Don't opt for the typical mani pedi. Have a bikini wax party. The esthetician will be more than happy to get so many clients in the winter, and you'll all definitely have a story to tell in the new year. Warning! Before you go, check out these tips

2. Cupcake tasting party:

Similar to the traditional wine tasting event (without the spit bucket please) Cupcakes are all the rage, and the prices for these little decadent treats are getting as outrageous as California Cabernet in the 1990's. Here's a way to have some fun, and maybe expose some of your local Cupcakeries.

First, purchase cupcakes from a sampling of all of the cupcake experts in your city. Include a few from the grocery store bakery, and if you're planning to be the latest cupcake queen in your city... throw in a few of your own. Remove all of the packaging and display them so that your guests can not tell which cakes came from which location. (make sure you know which is which)

Provide note pads for tasting notes, and encourage a spirited debate over which cupcake is king. (a live webcast will make it even more fun)

Use some type of voting system: Gummy bears, or Jelly beans work fine.
Once a winner has been chosen, reveal all of the competitors starting with the last place finisher and work your way up. Don't forget to include the per cupcake price.

Adding a few desert wines or a nice port will add a little more fun to for the 'judges'.

3. Mash potato Mashup
Or any of food that is too big to eat for normal humans.
The Travel Channel has a show called Man vs. Food.

No need to mess up your own kitchen. Go to one of the many places that boast the world's largest (Insert food here) and go for it. Guys, there"s usually a contest if you can eat the whole thing in a few hours. Girls get one and share it with 10-15 of your closest friends.

4. Have a Ghoul Tide Holiday Mashup:
Just because Halloween was in October, doesn't mean you have to abandon your gothness.

Book the suite at your local Haunted Hotel Watch A Nightmare Before Christmas or other scary movies and have a Ghoul Tide celebration.

If you really want to go all out, there's probably already a tree in the suite. Ask if you can Re-Decorate the tree with dark lights and ghoulish ornaments.

Wanna go even deeper, eat a bug! Some claim to really enjoy the taste of Bug Gourmet, and what better time to include them in your selection that at your Ghoul tide holiday celebration. Bring on the chocolate covered crickets and have a blast!

Let me know if the Hotel Ghost shows up.

5. Fitness Mashup:

And last, but not least, Mash the health club. Most fitness centers are gearing up for all of our 2010 resolutions that will only last about three months. Many are willing to give you a FREE TRIAL to check out their latest class.

Get your crew together to try one of the hottest new trends, Go to a Zumba class, a Pole Dancing Fitness class, Sweat it out at a Bikram Yoga studio, or "Move your Boombsey at a Kukuwa African Dance Workout* Full disclosure.... Kukuwa is a client and friend, but as you can see from this video, I need to also be a customer. (I'm the one taking a knee in the middle of class) :-)

Good luck with your last minute holiday plans, and don't stress... Mashup!

I hope you find some of these ideas perfect for you. If you do one of them, I want to see the photos, videos, and live casts.
